Plan 9 From Outer Space

Starring Bela Lugosi, Vampira, Tor Johnson, Criswell, Norma McCarthy Wood, Gregory Walcott, Lyle Talbot. Cinematography by William C. Thompson. Written, Produced and Directed by Edward D. Wood, Jr.

The most popular Atomic Age cult film of the 20th Century! Winner of the Golden Turkey Awards for Worst Picture and Worst Director of All Time! It's all here: The not-so-special effects, string-powered flying saucers and an army of zombies -- well, TV horror host, Vampira, titantic Tor Johnson and Bela Lugosi in his infamous "post-mortum" performance (with Ed's chiropractor standing in for the scenes shot after Bela's death).

"Ed Wood never cared for the PLAN 9 title. He preferred his more evocative GRAVE ROBBERS FROM OUTER SPACE. In a phone conversation with writer Don Fellman he referred to it as "that stupid title."  His planned star, Bela Lugosi, died in August of '56, so Wood used silent footage of Lugosi shot in November, 1955. Maila Nurmi, unemployed and broke, did her mute role for 'a few hundred dollars.' She took a bus to the set in her full Vampira get-up. She told me she had dialogue in the movie, but there is no evidence of this. Tor Johnson does have dialogue ("I'm a big boy now, Johnny"'). With TV psychic Criswell, Dudley Manlove, Lyle Talbot, Tom Keene, Joanna Lee, Paul Marco, and in a touch of casting genius, the flamboyant John "Bunny" Breckenridge as the Ruler of Outer Space!"
